I love trail / mountain running, followed pretty closely by mountain biking & golf. I enjoy getting out of Auckland when time permits, throwing the shoes, mountain bike and golf clubs in the car and heading somewhere in our fine country where you can do all of these things in one or two days (we are blessed, there’s many places that offer all of this stuff in NZ!).
total sport was born in August 2000, so that’s when I started.
Wow – there are many, many things I like about this job. The first thing I like about it is that it isn’t a job, it’s something I love to do, getting up every morning and wondering where the day will take me. There are always deals to be done, and knowing that everything I do (or try to do) will have an effect on this business is very exciting. Ultimately the goal has always been to merge a career with the lifestyle that I want to live. I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating a new event from nothing more than an idea, taking it to the market to sell to sponsors, then seeing it actually happen. I suspect this process is something similar to child birth, probably a similar gestation period plus plenty of excitement, pain, discomfort and joy along the way!! I am also proud that total sport is in a position to employ people that are passionate about the same things that drive me.
Hospitality jobs though University, then Events Manager at Sport Auckland in the late 1990’s.
After plenty of time wasting, to-ing and fro-ing (and a 3 year stint living in Canada mid degree), I ended up with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing and Management (from Auckland). There were no specific sport / event management degrees being offered when I started University!
