Jason BuckleyIt all started for me in 2004… when a fellow runner in the round the bays mentioned the coastal challenge to me. I thought why not, so I entered the 16km run even though I hadn't run more than 10km before - I finished in 1:24:35Classic moment / story / best part of the course... In 2006 I decided to step it up and enter the 21km on April Fools Day. I should have known better as I was to find out it was going to be a hard day - because there wasn't just a high tide it was a king tide. By the time I reached the finish line in 2:46:23 I was well spent Newbie advice… If you want the best out of this course preparation is key. So I would suggest if you can walk part or all of the course at the high tide mark a couple of weeks before the race or even better train on it if you live in the area - good luck and enjoy! I keep coming back because… of the extremeness of the course, the fact that it changes slightly every year, but most of all its the people - your fellow runners that make this such a great event. In 2010 I'll be tackling the… 22km distance - hopefully I will beat my pb, high tide permitting of course. Final comments / parting words... To all event directors, volunteers and sponsors (past and present) – without you we would not have such an event as we do today. My thanks to you all. Close Window |
