It all started for me… in 2004 with the 16km Coastal Challenge. My friends and I thought it sounded like a fun day at the beach. Sunburn, cuts, bruises and chaffage later we finished with a well deserved beer and cold shower. I was hooked.

Classic moment / story / best part of the course… Love the water parts, going under is a great cool off on the hot day but always gets a smile on the face.

Newbie advice… Try out different clothes before the race for chaffage - it's a killer otherwise. Short light steps on the rocks. Try to look at the scenery on the beach bits - less chance of face planting.

I keep coming back because… I love it. It has off-road element, location is great, good organisation and I always get someone to join me for the day so it's a social event for me too. Best way to spend a Saturday in the summer.

In 2010 I'll be tackling the… I would love to say the Full Monty but fitness levels now are not up to scratch so maybe the 16km. I will decide once Xmas and New Year gluttony has settled.

Final comments / parting words... Don't stop running this event and bring along all your friends and family for a fantastic day at the beach whatever distance they want to tackle.
