Peter GreenIt all started for me… in 2003, and I have done each of the Full Monty's since ( 7 in total) I am aiming for 10 then I will volunteer to be Tail End Charlie (although with all the young speedsters I may be the involuntary Tail End Charlie before then!!!) Classic moment / story / best part of the course … 2006 was the toughest year when we did the event with a spring tide ( well planned!!) As I came around the corner to the Okura River people were jumping off the rocks into the water which was up to their necks. I said to the guy running with me .. I hope they are very very short people cos if not we got one hell of a swim ahead. That was the most challenging piece in all 7 events !!. The best part of the course is definitely the first 11 ks. Newbie advice … First timers - don’t worry about trying to carry dry stuff in a back pack. You will be wet after about 90 seconds and will remain wet till the finish line. That is the beauty of the event. Oh and make sure you vaseline all your sensitive places!!! I keep coming back because…the CC is such a unique event. It is impossible not to get hooked on it. Nothing is as much fun as, running through water, gouging your legs on unseen sharp rocks, slipping over on wet mossy rocks, scrambling around the base of cliffs, running down the beaches then finally getting to the finish line and having a beer !!! In 2010 I'll be tackling the… Full Monty once again !! Final comments/ parting words… The CC is truly a unique event and once you do it you are hooked. I recommend attempting the Full Monty as all the different interactions you have down the coastline make it truly spectacular. Close Window |
